Building One Community —The Center for Immigrant Opportunity (B1C) kicks off Welcoming Week this Monday, September 14th. B1C, in partnership with Welcoming America, will continue to ‘create home together’ by providing Welcome Packets to all immigrants who come through its doors (located at 75 Selleck St.) and ending the week with a virtual film screening and panel of PBS Frontline’s Love, Life & the Virus.
Through this 9-day initiative, organizations and communities bring together immigrants, refugees, and long-time residents to build strong connections, affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places, and achieve collective prosperity.
B1C’s Welcome Packets will include a list of programs and services B1C provides, referral services provided by area partner organization, as well COVID-19 care information.
On September 17th at 7 pm, B1C in partnership with PBS Frontline and Stamford Health Medical Group will offer a free virtual film screening of PBS Frontline’s Love, Life & the Virus. Post-film commentary will be provided by Producer and Director, Oscar Guerra, Associate Director of Pulmonary & Critical Care at Stamford Health, Dr. Michael Bernstein, and Bi-Lingual Teacher at Hart Magnet School, Luciana Lira. This short documentary film takes us on a journey through a mother’s fight to survive COVID-19 in order to see her newborn baby and dives into how coronavirus hit one immigrant family, their struggle to be reunited, and the community that rallied around them. Pre-registration is required for this free event. Visit https://building1community.org/love-life-and-the-virus/. Register today!
