National Cycling Championship 2020 took place in Siem Reap province late last week with the motto of sports for health, peace, friendship, solidarity and technical qualification improvement.
Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, and President of Cambodian Cycling Federation (CCF) presided over the event.
At the opening ceremony, he called on all athletes to abide by the above-said motto with high responsibility without thinking only about winning and losing.
For the closing ceremony, Sorasak urged for more and permanent training and competitions, increase in quantity of athletes, capacity building for coaches, athletes and concerned officials, strengthening internal management structure, and so on in order to further develop this sport in preparation for the 2023 SEA Games to be hosted by Cambodia.
The competition held on Jan. 22-23 attracted participation of over 300 delegates, coaches, and athletes from 24 clubs and associations across the country. It covered two subjects: road bike (Men Elite Road Bike, Men Junior Road Bike and Men Master Road Bike for 40 years old up), and mountain bike (Men Elite Mountain Bike, Men Junior Mountain Bike, Women Mountain Bike and Men Master Mountain Bike for 40 years old up).
The 1st winner got 500,000 Riel ($125), followed by 400,000 Riel ($100), 300,000 Riel ($75), 200,000 Riel ($50) and 150,000 Riel ($ 37.5) for the second, third, fourth and fifth winners, respectively, with some incentives. Ly Vy – AKP
